About Us

In 1979, the Flight Operations Directorate held the first Chili Cookoff. The first place trophy was named after Mr. Gene Ross, a passionate supporter of America’s space program and of the Johnson Space Center. In the 45 years since – not much has changed. We get together as a community to enjoy great chili, great company, and OUT OF THIS world fun! We would love for you to join us.

Looking to Compete?

Think you’ve got the secret recipe for success? Bring your culinary skills to the Cookoff and see if you have what it takes to be crowned the JSC Chili Cookoff champion!

Just here for the fun?

Join us for a culinary showdown like no other, where cooks battle for the crown, and your taste buds are the real winners. Have some delicious chili, enjoy a cold beverage, play games, and meet awesome people! Secure your spot at the Cookoff today!

Robert Gilruth was instrumental in developing the first three American spaceflight programs. We also like to think he loved Chili. Learn all you need to know about the Gilruth Center here.
